Essential Skills to Support Breastfeeding
Did you know that newborns, if left undisturbed after birth, have the innate ability to crawl to the breast and latch on without any assistance? Unfortunately, this is rarely observed due to interruptions and disruptions caused by modern birth practices, and they often continue to disrupt infant feeding.
This live oneāhour lecture reviews the biological feeding behaviours newborns are born with and outlines how professionals can support families to work with these expectations. It covers strategies to optimise breastfeeding, guidance on offering supplemental milk while maintaining breastfeeding, and common challenges that may affect feeding. We will also consider how to support families as they work to understand and resolve these challenges. The lecture is followed by a Q&A.
All educational sessions are currently scheduled when possible around my lactation work. Due to the nature of the role, they can sometimes pop up at short notice. For the moment, each opportunity will be posted to my dedicated CPD Facebook page, which you can join below.
