Essential Skills When Using Alternative Feeding Methods
Is there more to bottle feeding than meets the eye, and how else might you feed a baby?
Is it really feasible to dedicate and entire hour to bottle feeding education? The truth is, I could probably fill two!
This session explores the key principles and practical skills needed to support families who are using bottles or other alternative feeding methods. We’ll look at the impact that sub‑optimal bottle‑feeding practices can have on infant wellbeing and family life, and why these issues are so often overlooked. By understanding common pitfalls and how to avoid them, you’ll be better equipped to guide families toward safer, calmer, and more responsive feeding experiences.
We’ll cover best practices in bottle feeding, including how to support paced, physiologically aligned feeding, and how to explain its importance in a clear and accessible way. The session also introduces alternative feeding methods for situations where a bottle may not be the most suitable option.
Grounded in the biological expectations of newborns, this session offers practical, evidence‑informed strategies to help families work with—rather than against—their baby’s natural instincts. You’ll leave with confidence in supporting healthier, more comfortable feeding experiences for the infants in your care.
All educational sessions are currently scheduled when possible around my lactation work. Due to the nature of the role, they can sometimes pop up at short notice. For the moment, each opportunity will be posted to my dedicated CPD Facebook page, which you can join below.
